Social StudiesRebuilding Haiti is an interactive experience exploring the process of earthquake recovery. Users learn about the process of re-building Haiti through narrative, photographs and informational sidebars, and make choices that carry consequences. A good starting point for discussions about the impact of natural disasters and the implications for planning. Available in both English and French. In the 1970s and 1980s, thousands of refugees fled Vietnam by boat. Produced by SBS Television in Australia, The Boat is an interactive narrative of one family trying to survive this perilous journey. An effective way to start conversations about both history and immigration issues that are as relevant today as they were 40 years ago. The Kayak Illustrated History Award is open to Canadian kids between the ages of 7 & 14. Students are invited to create their own illustrated story based on any element of Canada's past they find of interest. Submission deadline is June 1st, 2017. | ScienceCanadian Geographic's page on their recommendation for our national bird, the Grey Jay, or Whiskey Jack as it's known locally, contains geographical, historical, cultural and scientific information about this nearly ubiquitous bird. Cross-curricularListenwise is an educational website focusing on listening comprehension. Divided into Social studies, Science and ELA, users can search for lessons in their area of interest. A particularly useful current events section sees news added every day. Teaching With GoogleWriQ is a FREE tool that helps teachers assess writing in Google Docs. This Google Docs add-on helps teachers not only assess writing, including grammar, punctuation, spelling and more but also helps teachers track progress over time. |
